Cosmos is such an airy plant that it looks good wherever you plant it. Try it interspersed with perennials or grown in an annual bed. Makes a great cut flower. Lilium Black Beauty is a stunner. Though not black it does have some nice deep pinks that contrast with white edges. I love the way the the petals curve back and nearly touch the stem when you look from above - second photo. Hooray hooray - today I am celebrating. Just sent my edited book manuscript back to my editor. Watch this space - new book on flowers for sunny spaces coming out next spring. Gaillardias are an underused plant in flower gardens. These were started from seed this spring and are producing a great crop of varied patterned blooms for cut flowers and for pollinators. Fabulous patch of coneflowers in full bloom at Jenkins Arboretum. I loved the intermingling of the pinky-purple and white. Note how the white ones catch the sun and seem to glow. Second photo was one of the talked white ones and was delightfully scented! Maybe the cultivar ‘Fragrant Angel’. Zinnia time is here. My first ones are starting to produce including this luminous yellow one. Do you grow zinnias? They are such an easy warm-season annual to start from seed. Northview Moon Beds are going through their Phlox phase. It smells delightful as you walk down the path. Pretty Bird Farm - open for Garden Conservancy visit. Delightful cutting, herb and vegetable garden set in rural New Jersey near Stockton. Lovely tour in between torrential downpours. The air so heavy with moisture that it hung there waiting to envelope you. A walk around the garden this evening was led by the fragrance of this delightful lily- Conca d’Or which is an Orienpet hybrid. The colors glowed in the last rays of the sun. Scarlet Rosemallow - Hibiscus coccineus - is native to SE USA. Found in damp soils it is eye catching with its bright red star-shaped flowers. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Can reach 6 foot or more tall

Second set of views of Chanticleer Garden today - overcast skies with rain later but nonetheless a fabulous day to walk around and take in the sights and smells of the garden - from the elevated walkway to the willows, the lotus and pond, gravel garden and meadow - no filter necessary
